The best haircut is the one that still feels like you on an ordinary morning. At Image London, our stylists cut and finish hair at two South London salons, Streatham and Bermondsey. We look at your face shape, your hair and the time you really have to style it, then shape the cut around you.

Which ladies haircut to book
On the current women’s haircuts menu, a ladies cut and blow-dry starts from £75. Thick or long hair is £85. A restyle is £110. A wash and blow-dry, with no cut, is £40.
Book a restyle if you want a new length or shape, such as a bob, a long layered haircut, or a proper fringe for the first time. Book the standard cut and blow-dry if you are keeping the shape and taking off the growth. A blow-dry on its own will not change the cut.
What haircut suits my face shape?
No chart can tell you the right haircut from a face shape alone. A round, oval, square or heart-shaped face still has a hairline, a jaw and a styling habit that change the result. That is why the cut is agreed in the chair, not from a photo on its own.
As a starting point, face-framing layers can soften a strong jaw. A longer outline can lengthen a rounder face. A bob that ends around the jaw can give a square face a cleaner edge, if the hair is heavy enough to hold it. A curtain fringe can open the forehead without a hard, straight line. Bring two photos: one of the shape you like, and one of your hair on a normal day.
What is the best haircut for fine hair?
Fine or thin hair usually needs weight left in it. A precise outline, a blunt or softly blunt bob, or long layers that start lower down can make the hair look fuller. Cutting lots of short, wispy layers through the ends often does the opposite and leaves fine hair looking smaller.
A curtain fringe or a few face-framing pieces can add movement without taking the bulk out of the back. Thick hair is the other way round. Layers, including a butterfly cut or a long layered haircut, take weight out so the hair sits closer and moves. Do tell your stylist which you have. Fine, thin and thick hair each need a different amount of weight left in, and your stylist will cut for the hair in front of them.
If the aim is volume, the cut can help, but it cannot invent density. The blow-dry and where the weight sits do more for movement than a product sprayed on at the end.
Should I get layers?
Get layers if you want movement, if thick hair feels heavy, or if you want the outline softer around the face. Face-framing layers and a long layered haircut can do that while leaving enough length to tie up.
Skip heavy layering if you want one-length hair, if your hair is fine, or if you want a low-maintenance shape that you mostly leave to dry. A butterfly cut is a layered shape with shorter pieces through the front and length left underneath. It suits hair with enough density to hold the shape. On fine hair it can look thin unless the layers are kept long.
Bobs, curtain fringes and layers can be combined, but each one is a decision about upkeep. A fringe needs trimming. Layers grow out and need the shape put back. Say how often you are willing to come back, and how you wear your hair for work, the gym or tying it up. The cut should fit that life, not only the photo.

Common questions
What haircut suits my face shape?
The stylist looks at your face shape with your hair type and how you style it. Face-framing layers, a bob or a curtain fringe can change the outline, but the final shape is agreed at the appointment.
What is the best haircut for fine hair?
Keep the weight. A blunt or softly blunt bob, longer layers, or a light curtain fringe usually looks fuller than lots of short layers. Thick hair can take more layering, including a butterfly cut, because it has the density to hold it.
Should I get layers?
Yes, if you want movement or you need bulk removed from thick hair. No, if you want a low-maintenance, one-length cut, especially on fine hair. Long layers are the middle ground.
